Scholarships for Information technology and computer sciences (SINGAPORE 2010)

The Singapore Government awards the scholarship to Government-endorsed students from the other member countries of the ASEAN. Each Scholarship is for a full-time undergraduate degree course at the Nanyang Technological University, the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Management University. All disciplines except for Medicine and Dentistry are open to Scholars. The duration of each scholarships is for three or four years, depending on the discipline.

The award based on academic merit and places will allocated by open competition. If necessary, a one-year bridging or foundation programme, in addition to the undergraduate studies, will be provided.

To be eligible, a candidate must:

* Be a citizen in an ASEAN country (Except Singapore)
* Possess excellent academic records; and
* Have a good command of English

Candidates must meet the entry requirements for Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, and Singapore Management University. A recipient of the Scholarship may not concurrently hold any other Scholarship, Fellowship, Grant or Award without prior approval of the Singapore Government. The Scholars are also expected to return to their countries upon graduation to contribute to the development of their countries.

The scholarship will cover tuition fees for the duration of the award, a living allowance of S$4,300 per annum, an accommodation allowance based on the different room rates at each university and one return economy class air ticket passage from his/her home country to Singapore for the duration of studies.

Applications must be endorsed and submitted by the Indonesian Department of National Education (Bureau of Planning and Foreign Cooperation) at Building C, 6th Floor, Jl. Jend.Sudirman, Senayan, Jakarta Pusat. Candidates are required to produce the following :

1. Certificate, endorsement by the former school, for graduated applicants;
2. Recommendation from the school principal, for applicants who are still in Grade 3 at SMU.

The Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program

The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. The objective of the program is to provide an opportunity for well qualified citizens of the Bank’s Developing Member Countries (DMCs) to undertake postgraduate studies which will assist the economic and social development of their countries.

Who is eligible?

Citizens of developing member countries of the Bank (see list and selection criteria below) who have a minimum of two years’ working experience and who are eligible for admission to the following degree programs at the University of Sydney:

  • Master of Economics
  • Master of Commerce
  • Master of International Business
  • Master of Transport Management
  • Master of International Public Health
  • Master of Engineering

Please note, applicants living or working outside their home country are not eligible for this scholarship. Also, no applicant will be allowed to apply for the ADB-JSP scholarship more than two times.

Conditions

To be considered for an ADB-JSP scholarship you must:

  • Lodge a separate application for admission to one of the above degrees using a University of Sydney application form, as well as completing the ADB-JSP application form.
  • Have an undergraduate degree from a recognized university with above average grades (eg GPA of 3 out of 4 or First Class Pass or First Class Honours.
  • Have a four year Engineering degree with above average grades from a recognized university, if applying for the Master of Engineering.
  • Provide evidence of two years work experience and the latest income tax return (an official letter from an employer may be accepted in cases where an income tax return is not available).

The University of Sydney Application Processing Fee (APF) will be waived if you lodge your ADB-JSP application form together with your admission to the University application form.

Your ADB-JSP application will only be considered, if you receive an official offer of admission to one of the above degree programs prior to the ADB-JSP application deadline. If your entry is subject to English language proficiency or academic documention, you must provide all required documents before the ADB-JSP scholarship deadline.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED

Application closing date for courses starting in March 2010 is 31 May 2009.

Application closing date for courses starting in July 2010 is 30 November 2009.

Benefits

Each scholarship covers full tuition fees, an allowance for books and instructional materials, a monthly living allowance, medical insurance and travel expenses. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be applied to assist in field work and thesis preparation. In special circumstances, computer literacy, preparatory language and other similar courses may be covered under the scholarship.

Selection criteria

  • Qualifications of the candidate.
  • Applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected.
  • Preference to women candidates.
  • Preference to applicants with lesser financial capacity.
  • The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who have previously studied abroad.
  • The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who are pursuing a second master’s degree or a second doctorate degree.
  • Candidates who are applying in a participating academic institution in their own country may not be selected.
  • Diversification of nationality in the overall Program as well as at each participating academic institution will be considered.

Duration of scholarship

The scholarship period is one year. An appropriate extension for the second or third year of study is conditional on the scholar’s maintaining a satisfactory level of performance determined by the University of Sydney and following approval by the ADB.

Total number of scholarships

Scholarships are awarded, each year, as vacancies arise following completion of studies or withdrawal of scholars. Less than three ADB-JSP scholarships may be awarded in each round of application.

Competition for an ADB-JSP scholarship is extremely strong. Only candidates who receive an unconditional offer of admission will be considered for the ADB-JSP scholarship.

Several PhD positions are available at the Uppsala Programming for Multicore Architectures Research Center (UPMARC), Department of Information Technology, Uppsala University Sweden.

General Description

UPMARC has been formed to make a broad coordinated attack on the challenges of developing methods and tools to support software development for multicore computer systems, and brings together research groups in complementary areas of computer science: computer architecture, computer networks, parallel scientific computing, programming language technology, real-time and embedded systems, program verification and testing, and modeling of concurrent computation. UPMARC has been awarded a ten year Linnaeus grant from the Swedish Research Council, as a sign of scientific excellence.   Research directions span of UPMARC span over programming language constructs, program analysis and optimization, resource management for performance and predictability, verification and testing, and parallel algorithm construction and implementation. UPMARC welcomes applications from candidates who want to conduct research within one or more of these directions. Requirements

A PhD position requires a Master of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent in a field which is relevant for the topic of the PhD thesis. The position is for a maximum of five years and includes departmental duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching). The salary amounts currently to about 22,200 SEK per month in the first year.

Fulbright Scholarship for undergraduate, phd and diploma

Preference will be given to applicants who serve as faculty members of state and private institutions of higher education in Indonesia. Applicants will possess:

* Undergraduate with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.00 scale)
* leadership qualities
* a good understanding of Indonesian and international cultures a
* demonstrated commitment to the chosen field of study
* a willingness to return to Indonesia upon completion of the Fulbright program
* a minimum TOEFL score of 550

Summer Academy “Tipping Points in Humanitarian Crises

Call for Applications extended until the 31st of January - Summer Academy 2009

Applications are accepted until 31 January 2009 to attend the fourth MRF Summer Academy on Social Vulnerability which addresses "Tipping Points in Humanitarian Crises". Like in the previous years, around 20 international PhD candidates will get the opportunity to take part in the academy to present and discuss their research on social vulnerability with senior scientists and experts at the Hohenkammer Castle, outside Munich, from 26 July to 1 August 2009.
The Munich Re Foundation and the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security proudly announce this years summer academy. The event will be chaired by the current Chair/Director of the 2009 Academy, Prof. Dr. Thomas E. Downing, and Co-director Mohamed Hamza.
